Dr Jinyu Shan

Post Doctoral Scientist in Genomics

Dr. Jinyu Shan is a molecular microbiologist and
translational scientist specialising in molecular diagnostics, bacteriophage
biology, and biomarker discovery. He earned his PhD from the University of
Warwick, following training at Nankai University and Shandong University, and
focuses on translating microbiological research into practical diagnostic
solutions for infectious diseases.

He previously held research roles at the University of
Leicester and has authored over twenty peer-reviewed publications. He is the
inventor of a patented phage-based diagnostic technology for detecting Borrelia
infections associated with Lyme disease and other tick-borne pathogens.

Since joining Micropathology in 2024, Dr. Shan has worked in
the Sequencing and Genetics groups, developing NGS and PCR-based assays for
human and veterinary diagnostics. He led the development of PCR tests
for EEHV and EMCV in collaboration with ZSL London Zoo, expanding the
organisation’s veterinary diagnostic capabilities.
